Should Britain stay in or pull out of the European Union?

A great argument is raging between those who want Britain to pull out of the European Union and those who want to stay, and a referendum has been promised on the issue in 2017 – but don’t hold your breath. One of the most contentious issues is that of sovereignty. Is it right that EU directives should supersede British law? Those who want to quit the EU claim that it would be a big boost for British democracy if the Westminster parliament regained its sovereignty, and more and more people are being drawn to this point of view. Those against, however, argue that Britain benefits enormously from European Employment laws and social protection. And so it goes on. What would be the effect on British jobs? Would Britain save money? What would be the effect on trade? Would Britain’s world influence be affected? What about taxes? These are just some of the important questions than require answers– and both sides have them. Unfortunately, for those wishing to make a clear-cut decision, they are diametrically opposed.
Do you wish to remain in the European Union – or not?
You have at least four years to make up your mind. By then a certain Mr Farage and UKIP may have tipped the balance.
